We’re building to a crescendo this week; the planets are moving to align with
each other and set the tone for the year. Venus conjoins the Sun and offers the
energy to repair relationships, especially in professional matters. Retrograde
Mars is a little testy and has difficulty with the choice between bowing to
authority and what respect he feels is due to him. And although we have another
eclipse at the end of the week, a solar one, the rest of the planets seem to be
saying to do the best job that you can.
Tension starts to build on Tuesday when the Moon moves into Capricorn. This
is the most balsamic phase - she is at her darkest. You need to finish up your
projects, let go of some old issues and begin to reorder your priorities.
Saturn changes direction at 4°
39’ Libra on
Wednesday, he’s the ruler of Capricorn, so you can begin to see the theme being
developed here. He’s calling for us to reassess our goals and how we carry them
out. Look over your networking threads - relationships may need to be
rearranged. Keep in mind that Saturn has been square Pluto for the last 4
months, continuing that close relationship into February when it takes a break.
Squares between major players like Saturn and Pluto mark a major cosmic
crossroad. This particular one spotlights the laws, methods and institutions
that will need to be transformed or eliminated. This year we’ll be taking a look
at the seeds that were planted in 1982 - the last time these two guys came
together - to see what has become of them.
The New Moon occurs shortly after midnight on Friday morning at 25°
Capricorn. It’s conjunct Venus, and Mercury stations direct there at noon. This
is a Saros Series 12 North eclipse and very interestingly, it is one of the
longest at 11 minutes. Won’t happen again for 1000 years until December 23,
3043! It asks the question of what were you doing in 1991 as that will hint of
the effect of this eclipse in your chart. Unless this eclipse goes head to head
with one of your planets, (and pay special attention to your ascendant and
Midheaven), it should be beneficent, releasing tensions and offering a new
beginning for most of the world’s people.
If you recall, an eclipse will most powerfully affect those particular
portions of the world under its trajectory. In this case, the Moon is at apogee
when it starts and as far from the earth as it can get, so it has a wide swath
of influence. It’s going to sweep across central Africa, heading towards the
Indian Ocean where it centers for greatest effect over the Maldives, islands off
the southwest coast of India. This is where to go if you really want to observe
it as it will hang around there for over 10 minutes of its totality. It sweeps
away from the shadow over the Pacific Ocean.
Iran will fall under its influence as it has Pluto exactly on the Solar
Eclipse Midheaven and squaring Saturn on the Descendant. (This will be
interesting to watch play out.) It will briefly darken the sun over Australia
which has Pluto on the eclipse descendant and Saturn on the IC. Some are
predicting a change of prime ministers there.
Mars transits will be tweaking this eclipse through the end of 2013. I should
mention, however, that some astrologers believe the length of the impact of a
solar eclipse is determined by length of time the Moon’s shadow covers the Sun.
As I said, this one is 11 minutes and thus 11 years is the theoretical
influence.
Looking at the US, we see that the eclipse point is exactly conjunct the
President's 12th house Saturn. This can be a wake-up call about secret enemies.
If you add to this, that retrograde Mars is in his house of open enemies, you
can see that he will have a period of open confrontation, maybe even warfare
ahead. With these transits, he needs to be careful not to be stabbed in the
back, while fending off enemies in the front. He needs to rethink his alliances
as this dangerous period continues through May. For sure, he needs to trust his
instincts.
Remember that the chart of the ruler is the chart of the country.... Remember
that he is not the president that brought us loss of jobs, foreclosures and
economic losses and that blaming him is ignorant and self-serving. Stop
forwarding the poisonous emails that are nothing more than thinly disguised
racism. As a country, we do not need to be putting this out into the universe.
We need all the help we can get. We’ve got enough bad karma along these
lines.
Mars retrograde is on the ascendant of the solar return of last year’s
inaugural. This does not look good for us. On the other hand, once Mercury turns
direct, we've got Venus traveling alongside the Sun this month. Coupled with the
New Moon, we will have fresh opportunities to seek new beginnings in career,
business and even our personal lives.
Lets take a look at the week ahead by sign.
Fire signs are the first to reveal what that element has working for it.
Aries: don’t go rushing headfirst, but don’t dither either. The eclipse says
that you could make your mark at work and even out in the world. You’ve got the
courage, so go for your goal over the next few months while the planets are
backing your move.
Leo: You need to attend to your health. You’ve been burning the candle at
both ends and really need to boost your stamina. You’ve got great heart, but
need to eat heart healthy meals and exercise aerobically through the winter
until you can get outside again. You’ve got a lot of chores coming your way
which you need to prepare for.
Sagg: you need to spend some time this month working on your personal
finances. This is of primary importance. Organize and review last year’s and
prepare for this year's. Forget purchases on credit and match outgo to income.
Don’t leave anything to chance and for heavens’ sake, don’t overspend.
The key word for the air signs is adjustment.
Gemini: You really need to work on your own personal security, finding a
balance between responsibility and independence. Look deep for financial and
emotional answers; times are a’changing and on some level, let go of some of the
habits of a lifetime and learn to cooperate.
Libra: it’s possible that you will need to make some domestic adjustments,
perhaps moving or even changes that will bring more comfort and security to your
home. Just maintain the balance between heart and ambitions.
Aquarius: You really need time to quietly reflect on your past year and its
lessons and then put it into perspective. You won’t be able to move ahead
without grounding and centering yourself around this and then making the
adjustment to build upon for this year.
Earth People, the eclipse sets up a major personal theme for the next 6
months.
Taurus. You need to sort out your personal thinking. You’ve got some details
you need to sort and discard, so you don’t get stuck in all the trivia. You also
need to let your imagination and enthusiasm roam free. This is no time to get
stuck in a rut.
Virgo: You can allow yourself to be more spontaneous. It’s your turn to
sparkle and enjoy yourself in the moment. You also need to begin to review your
long-range plans. You know you are very attractive right now and have love and
attention coming your way.
Capricorn: you are at a crossroads in your life. It’s against your nature to
make snap decisions, but you must realize that changes are immanent and you
should be planning for them. No need to allow others to make up your mind. You
know you like to be the one in charge.
Water Signs are affected emotionally this week and need a quiet
environment.
Cancer is a partner in the eclipse as a balance for Capricorn. Your
relationships, whether personal or business are going to need compromise. Make a
few adjustments so you are less self-sufficient and actually you need to show
that you are flexible enough to help them work well.
Scorpio, in the next few months you will need to manage your time better and
stay on top of loose ends. The big thing however is to learn to communicate more
clearly. Because you keep ideas and emotions buried so deeply, you need to
practice bringing them up into the sunlight for all to see and for you to deal
with.
Pisces: Over the next coming months, you need to widen your circle of friends
and get out into society more often... Partly to make a difference in your
community, but also to network and sort out your game plan to get through the
next couple years.
Everyone needs to keep in mind that with this New Moon, you’ll be sowing the
seeds for the year. Be certain that you are setting in motion most of what you
need to meet the challenges ahead of us. Saros Cycles of the eclipses were
amazing pinpointed by the Chaldeans of Mesopotamia nearly 5000 years ago. They
noticed that the cycles repeat every 18 years. So as I suggested earlier, think
back to 1991 to see if there was any impact on your life; then look at which
house 28° Taurus falls in your chart as that may provide a further clue.
